A couple of weeks ago the 2011 Wilmington Riverfest became the highlight of the weekend for the local community. I had the chance to go out on the last day of local festival and take some shots to capture the events that were taken place. A photographer can never take too many pictures, it is always fun to have your camera with you and just take random shots.

Girls Girls Girls (cover band)

Every summer Wilmington, NC has a concert series every Friday night. I attended a couple of these, but only brought my camera along on this one. I will say the band was very good, and I always love shooting bands. It is one of my passions to do band photography. The lights, emotions, and the performances always makes it fun and allows you to capture a great photograph.
Majority of these photos I shot with my 200mm lens with aperture of 2.8. I also switched to my 50mm fixed lens with 1.4 aperture when I was able to get onstage with the band. This allowed me to capture the images at a low iso for good quality.
Hair Salon Photoshoot

I was asked to do a hair product shoot at a local hair salon, Groove Jet Salon. It is a real nice modern upscale salon in downtown Wilmington, NC. Since Groove Jet was allowing us to use their place to shoot the hair product shoot, I offered to do a layout shoot for their place. Most of these images were my attempt of indoor HDR. It was a fun shoot, and there was tons of light in the place, which made it nice.
Kornerstone Bistro Food Shoot

I was asked to do a layout shots of the restaurant, Kornerstone Bistro. First off I have to say the chef is absolutely amazing. Their pasta dishes and oven fried pizzas are some of the best I have ever had. They have won awards for their food, and they know how to take care of their customers. Try their pizza once and you will want to keep coming back for more.
Now lets get down to the photography. I shot all these photos with my Canon 40D. My set up was using one 580Ex external flash. I had remote triggers set up with my camera. I shot through an umbrella and also had a reflector on the other end to bounce the light back to get rid of most hard shadows.
Abney Wedding

Congrats to the fun couple, Ricky and Melissa Abney. They were full of fun and were so joyful together. The wedding took place at the Chezmer House in Holden Beach, NC.
Marie Hippie style shoot

I was inspired to do this shoot after I saw my friend Marie in a photo sitting on her kitchen counter cooking food. At the time she was in a bikini, and I just thought that it would be great to do a hippie style shoot. Marie is a fun and full of free spirit and I figured it would be a great shoot for her. Here are some of many photos.
Trip to Bald Head Island
I haven’t really updated my blog in a very long time, and that is not a good thing for a photographer. So, I am doing some catching up. At the end of February we went out to Oak Island, NC to visit for the first time since we have moved to North Carolina.
Oak Island was very beautiful and it was something fun to do. Just make sure you can afford the very expensive ferry ride. I believe they have doubled the price since we have gone.

Tansome Advertising Photo

Tansome Tanning was my most recent client for advertising photos. The project was to have one photo done of the tanning bottle that was provided. Of course us photographers have to take many photos. To get this photo I set it up on light box on a 3ft stool.
The big challenge was trying to get get little or no reflection from the bottle. The bottle itself had highly reflective material on it, which makes it a huge challenge. I had to make sure I was out of the way in every shot, and backgrounds did not show. This became a big problem as the first few shots I saw my lights, then I saw the back of my room. I reduced it a lot, but then finally had to get rid of minor reflections in Photoshop.
